For the girls, Freshman Giulianna Garcia participated in her first High School swim meet and placed 1st in the 500 Free against both schools, also she broke the Monarch High Record with a time of 5:36.43. We are very excited to see what other records she will break in the next 4 years. Our 400 Free Style relay continues to excel and came in first with a time of 4:50.69. Against Coral Glades, the boys did not have any first place wins. Against Coral Springs, we took first place with Evan Spalluto in the 100 Back, and Murilo Da Silva in the 100 Breast. Announcement 11/6
To begin with, on October 26th the swimmers participated in Districts. Districts took place at Pompano Beach Aquatic Center. It was a rough day; we had to be ready by 6:00 a.m. and it was 50 degrees outside! Nevertheless, the swimmers performed their best. Freshman, Elle Peltcs set a new personal record in the 50 free style and Captain Kyle Oliver came in 3rd in the 100 Back. In total, we had 10 of our 19 swimmers that competed advance from Districts to Regionals.
Regionals were held on November 3rd at Boca High School. In individual events, Grace Nemanic qualified in the 100 Breast and the 200 IM, Kyle Oliver qualified in the 100 Fly and 100 Back, and Hayley Taylor qualified in the 50 free. This is Hayley's first year being on a swim team, and she already made it to Regionals!
Both the girl's and the boy's 400 free style relays qualified.
Swimming in the girl's relay: Zoe Dobbins, Ava Corgan, Grace Nemanic, and Hayley Taylor; their alternate was Victoria Lopes.
Swimming in the boy's relay: Kyle Oliver, Evan Spalluto, Arthur Reis, and Nick Salazar; their alternate was Justin Picciolo.
All of the girls each set their own new personal best time in the relay, making a new best relay time for them of 4:28.03; very impressive! Grace Nemanic set ANOTHER new Monarch record in the 200 IM. She broke the record that had been set in 2008 with a time of 2:36.22.
Sadly, none of the swimmers qualified for states, which is going to be held in Stuart on Friday the 10th. That puts our season to a close.
The swim team is a group of joyful, smart, enthusiastic athletes. This year we only had 3 girls and 3 boys return from last years team. There were 22 athletes on the team. It is impressive how well these athletes performed with the majority of them being new to swimming. It was a pleasure coaching them this season I look forward to next season and continuing my e-mails then. Till then, if anyone needs my assistance I am now free to help the rest of the Monarch community!
Hope everyone has a wonderful week, and remember....

On October 2nd, Monarch versed Blanch Ely at the Deerfield Aquatic Center. Both the boys & girls took home a win!
On October 7th, swimmers participated in BCAA Swimming & Diving competition. There are some huge congratulations in order. Kyle Oliver and Grace Nemanic were our only swimmers to make it to the finals in individual events. Grace Nemanic, who is also the junior class valedictorian, set the new record for Monarch High School in the 100 Breast!! You can see her name in the cafeteria with a lovely time of 1:18.37. The top 10 times in every event received a medal and sadly we did not win any, but the girls 400 Free Style Relay featuring Grace Nemanic, Ava Corgan, Zoe Dobbins, and Hayley Taylor were the closest... they came in11th place!! Thankfully none of them are seniors; we will get it next year!
Yesterday, 10/12/17, the swimmers had their last swim meet for regular season. It was at the Coral Springs Aquatic Center against Taravella. Multiple students set their personal best times and it was awesome!Co-Captain Justin Picciolo set a new PR of 26.38 in the 50 Free Style, Sophomore Zachary Pericht set TWO new PRs in the 500 Free Style with a 6:52.65 and the 50 Free Style with 29, Freshman Nathan Jaffe set a new PR in the 200 Free Style with a 2:53.07. Way to go boys!
Many of our swimmers also earned 1st place in their events: Captain Kyle Oliver in the 100 Back, Senior Nick Salazar in the 100 Free, Kyle Oliver in the 100 Back, and the girls 400 Free Style Relay. Awesome job!
Sadly the swimmers took home two losses. Their records this year were; Boys 3 - 7 and Girls 2 - 8. Although it is not the best record, many of the swimmers continue to improve themselves and accomplish their goals. Most importantly, they're always cheering, supporting, and encouraging each other the entire time.
Now the swimmers next challenge is Districts. Districts are on October 26th (they will be excused from class and you will be hearing from me), and swimmers are now competing individually instead of as a team. Each swimmer has been entered in his or her best events. The top 2 swimmers in the District will automatically advance to Regionals, and then it will go down to times and those will have to be compared to all the other District Meet times. I will keep you updated on how all of our swimmers do.
Thank you for all of you who go out of your way to congratulate swimmers and be involved with our team. Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend and a spooky Friday the 13th!
